I have sad news, my friends. I have run zero — yes zero — miles since my half marathon PR on October 4th. I’m wishing, hoping, and praying that I’ll be able to run my next race scheduled for October 24th, but it’s not looking good. Here’s how my week has shaken out:
Tuesday — 0 miles
I attempted to run a few slow miles to shake things out and keep my legs fresh. To work out the kinks, if you will. Unfortunately I made it a whopping 5 feet out of my driveway and felt a searing pain shooting up from my ankle. I walked back inside and spent the day icing, compressing, and Advil’ing.
I say “I’m ready to run!!!”
Wednesday — 0 miles
I thought it was a fluke. I went out again on Wednesday. Same thing happened. Repeat of Tuesday’s activities: RICE.
But ankle says, “no.”
Saturday — 0 miles
I took Thursday and Friday off as complete rest days. By Friday afternoon I was going a little stir crazy. I posted a push-up challenge to myself to keep things in check. Desperate times have begun calling for desperate measures. I was ready to go on Saturday. I thought for sure this would be the run. I had taken off several days, I was refreshed. I started up my Garmin, did some dynamic stretching while I waited for satellites, and off I went. And it didn’t hurt right away! Hallelujah! But by the time I made it to my neighbor’s driveway, I called it quits. I could have pushed on. And if I hadn’t just had the run of my life, I might have. But I nailed my ‘A’ race and couldn’t justify doing any additional damage.
PR in the works!
So now here I am, twiddling my thumbs. Posting push-ups challenges. Writing posts about common running injuries. And I’m sitting around. Not running.
Now that I’m looking for new ways to stay fit, I’m totally in for a push-up challenge. I’m starting to fall apart and to lose my sanity. I have several doctor’s appointments lined up. One is with one of my best friends from growing up. She better give me good news. But frankly, I’m fearing the worst.
I’ve got backup measures in place. I purchased a bike trainer a day ago. I’m just hoping I can get it cleaned off and my bike mounted before the week ends. I need some cardio in my life! Until then, my running clothes and running gear will continue to sit sadly on the bathroom counter, waiting for the day that I can suit up for a morning run.
World’s saddest bathroom counter.
Wish me luck friends. Send me all your healing vibes all over again. 2015 is turning out to be The Year of the Injury. I sure hope 2016 treats me better.
