It’s the last Friday of the month. And you know what that means, right? It means the stars align and Runfessions coincides with the Friday Five 2.0. It’s like a match made in blogging heaven. Let’s get on with it, shall we? I have a few things to runfess this February…
Join Fairytales and Fitness and me for the Friday Five 2.0 linkup! This has been an amazing ride and we’re glad you guys link up every week. Scroll down to add yours!
I runfess…
1. I have the need for speed.
I runfess I freaking LOVE running fast. There, I said it. Marathons are cool and all because there are major bragging rights involved with finishing one, but damn if I don’t feel like a badass when I can rip off super speedy paces and feel great afterward. There’s a reason 5Ks are my favorite race distance.
2. Running with a dog is everything I dreamed of and more.
I love running with my dog. I didn’t think I did. But then I went out for a run this week without her. I was so lonely! It was kinda sad. We reunited for my cool down mile and all was right with the world.
3. I almost didn’t sign up for Grandma’s in June.
I know — I don’t know what I was thinking either! It was close, though. I should have signed up when I first got the idea so a) registration would have been cheaper and b) I would have gotten the race jacket as part of registration. But I didn’t because I made a rookie mistake and “thought” about it. Like I was even thinking. I knew I would be running it when the thought first crossed my mind. It just took a hot minute to get there.
I had to really deliberate about it, though, because it’s not just me going. My whole family will be coming with me and it takes a lot of coordination and dedication to get the gang all together for a race that I selfishly run while my husband corrals the two little people.
Speaking of which…
4. My husband is amazing.
I runfess, without my husband’s support, there’s no way I would run as many races as I do, travel for races, meet new people, or train as many clients as I do. He’s a good guy. Some may say he’s a mensch. As hard of a time as I give him for trivial things like not clearing the table or not vacuuming the right way (yes, there is a right way to vacuum), he’s a keeper.
5. Global warming is real.
I’m a tree hugger and I’m really torn up about how we’ve treated our home. But the runner in me is really digging this springlike weather we’ve had over the last few days. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t enjoying it. Shorts and a singlet in February? It doesn’t seem quite right… but it was amazing…
That’s a wrap for my February runfessions. I’m certain I have more but thankfully the Friday Five 2.0 limits me to only five things, otherwise I’d probably gripe about who knows what. This at least keeps me honest — and positive. 🙂 Win win!
Have a fantastic weekend — and those of you running Disney, have a blast!
xo
TALK TO ME!
Pick your poison: sprints or long, slow distance?
Have you run a Disney race? Which one?

Maybe if I ran fast I’d love the shorter distances. Except I can run *faster* for the shorter distances. So it seems odd I don’t just concentrate on shorter distances. I actually like all distances (except never having done a marathon); they all have their own pros & cons.
So far I’m happier running without Bandit — but when he shows he wants to come & it’s an easy run, I take him. Because he clearly enjoys it. I’m sure I’ll enjoy it more if I ever train him to a hands free leash.
Your husband VACUUMS?
I know, right? ? I’m a lucky one.
You’re already running faster. Baby steps!
I do like the feeling of running fast but I haven’t done any speed work in over a year. I was really just focusing on getting the miles in last year.
I’ve never done a Disney race but I’m not a huge fan of Disney lol. Plus the races and travel is super expensive!
Sooooo expensive.
No speedwork at all?! Incredible. I need the variation in my life. But you spin and stuff and I do not. So I’m sure that helps you.
I hate speed work, particularly right now–it just makes me realize how slow I am! So I’m just running and enjoying as much as I can (not any more though, whomp whomp). And look at you loving running with the pup! After everything you kept carrying on about 😀
I know. She’s so dumb. But it turns out I trained her pretty well. ?
I definitely go through periods where I just enjoy running for the act of it and nothing else.
I’ve been running fastish lately and I love the feeling, but I’m ready to go back to my slow and steady just to finish the long races pace LOL.
And this weather is wacky. We didn’t have winter this year.
We had winter but not much of it. Crazy!!
I love running fast. It’s so fun!
I 100% agree, that without a supportive husband I wouldn’t be able to run as many races as I do either. Its always great to have a supportive significant other.
Right? How do some of these people handle having someone who doesn’t support them?! I will never understand that.
I pick distance over speed…..because, duh. My version of “speed” will never get to a first place finish (and I’m alright with that). I’d rather go the distance and get my money’s worth LOL
I’ll never get a first place finish. I’d be lucky to get an AG place. Has never happened and probably never will. And I’m all good with that. I just like running. 🙂
I’m so with you on speed. I was a sprinter in school and that love will never die. Yeah I’d injure myself constantly now if I ran as fast as I wanted to, so that’s why we go long. It’s all good. You’re right: supportive husbands rock! Thanks for linking!
I get injured when I run long. Maybe I should go back to sprinting more. I didn’t get injured nearly as much then!
My husband is also amazing and super supportive so I feel so lucky to have him. I don’t know how people do it when they don’t have a supportive spouse. That would be awful 🙁
Also agree about global warming. I love this weather but it freaks me out how warm it is. We do our part to be eco friendly and are installing solar panels on our house (as soon as we get the $$$!) and only drive one compact car. Even though those small things don’t really help much I still feel like I’m doing my part!
Every little bit helps. We recycle as much as possible, use as little “throwaway” stuff like paper towels and things as possible, and try to get paper and glass instead of plastic.
I honestly don’t know how people survive with unsupportive spouses. I agree, it would be awful for sure. I’m glad I picked well. 🙂
I enjoy speed work but I don’t enjoy shorter races – 5Ks are my least favorite. 10Ks suck too because I think they should be easy but they aren’t!
Lol! I don’t like 10Ks either. They’re short but I never know how to pace myself! It’s a confusing distance. 😉
I miss running with my dog! With the crew I have now it’s difficult because we have so many and they’re small. My late, great Dalmatian was the best running partner!
Aww… that’s a great dog to run with. But your crew is adorable so there’s that. 🙂
I like short races because there’s no pressure to train. I like running fast. I use the 5ks as speedwork. That being said, I love halfs because there’s no pressure to run fast but it’s the training time that gets to me. Which is why I’ll never run a full.
How funny because I’m like you except I LOVE the training time for a full. It’s the race I don’t really like. Lol!
5Ks are so fun because you can put it all out there and there won’t be crazy repercussions later in the race like a half or full.
I have never run with a dog but I could see myself running with one. Except that my husband hates dogs oh well there is that dream 🙂
My husband claims he hates pets, too. But that doesn’t stop me from bringing them home. Lol!
Running with a dog is amazing, I must say. I’m glad she likes running.
I love running with my dogs too… and you are right, it does feel a little lonely when they don’t go out with me!
Right?! I hate running with her because it’s a huge pain in the ass. But I’d rather run with her than by my lonesome now. 🙂
It does still blow my mind that people think global warming isn’t real?? Hasn’t anyone ever seen that the polar ice caps are melting at an alarming rate? We use and abuse our resources in this country like crazy! I am one of only 4 houses out of 1500 in my town that has garbage service that does organics recycling. JUST.4! Ok – off my soap box. 🙂 Excited to see you at Grandma’s. I’m going solo, but my hubby may try to drive up saturday morning – although I told him to drive 2 1/2 hours and have two cars there is kinda silly.
You’re only 2 1/2 hours away?! I’m 12 hours away… hence why the whole fam is coming. 🙂
ONLY FOUR HOUSES?!?! That blows my mind.
Ha! Winter returned to the Front Range yesterday. We had snow showers all day, which the forecast got wrong, and then I woke up to 19 degrees this morning. I’m getting a pedicure tomorrow with my mom, and by golly I am going to wear flip flops. My feet will be cold, but I don’t want to mess up the polish.
Gah… I think that’s what we’re in for this weekend. I’m not looking forward to it!!
Have fun getting a pedi!
I wish I could run fast! maybe if there were a 200 meter sprint race with just me and the old lady down the street I could win that – hahahaha! I would have to runfess that people out with dogs while I’m running scares me. But that’s because I had an accident on a bike when a very large dog (not on a leash) ran straight into me as I was flying down a hill. I love all animals but I just freeze sometimes when there are dogs on the loose… I have never run Disney and I don’t plan on it 🙂 I know people love it and I’m all about doing what you love but Disney is definitely not my thing!
My dog is always leashed. I don’t like unleashed dogs either — especially when the owner is nowhere to be found!
My fast is relative. I’m no 4 minute miler! Lol.
I am just the opposite about 5k’s! One of my goals this year is to incorporate more but dang I hate a 5k simply cause I have to run out of my comfort zone the whole time! Yes, I know all the better reasons to do it right?!?!
I love running with my dog too! I’m actually looking for a race we can do together!
The only Disney race I’ve done was the marathon last year but I had Mr. Sippi talked into doing the Dopey challenge for next year and would you believe it’s sold out! Yes only thing available was the VIP which was get this $1150 per entry!!! WTH???
Sigh we won’t be doing Disney in 2018!
$1150?!?! Heck no…
5Ks are so fun! But yes totally out of the comfort zone for 3 miles. But so exhilarating!
Yes I do love running fast! I miss it! 5k’s are the only races I can win an AG award lol! Yes I went to Disney Princess weekend last year. Really wishing I was there now!
I can’t win any AG awards. Maybe when I’m old and everyone has slowed down. ?
I like running fast, but I don’t like hurting, so I’ll stick to speedwork in training because 5ks are haaaaard and they huuuuuuurt. hahahaha.
Haha #truth! But the hard and the hurt is so badass!
Love your dog!
I’m all about the long, slow distance. I’ve never been fast, and I feel like I probably never will be. It’s ok, because I can slog along for miles and miles.
I’ve done several Disney races: Tower of Terror 10 Miler, WDW Marathon and the Glass Slipper Challenge. I hope to do some more.
She’s a keeper. 🙂
I like changing up the pace. I can slog but I get so bored sometimes!
I LoVE 5Ks!! They are quick and done and the sense of accomplishment is not as painful as a half marathon.
That is so wonderful of your husband! Don’t forget to tell him how much you appreciate him!
Yessssss to the 5K!!!! It’s hard and awesome!
Oh I tell him all the time. He’s the best!
Global warming is real, we’re seeing plus 11c in February which is NUTS! I used to run with our dog, she was a retired sled dog and loved to run! Sadly she passed away last year but we are hoping to get another run-friendly dog!
Aw I’m sorry to hear. My dream dog is a husky so she can run all the miles with me. 🙂
I like the idea of running with my dog but the reality is that I end up with my arm being pulled out of it’s socket because ….well, this leads to this topic of speed….I’m slow. Poor thing, he really tries to slow down for me, but as a dog, I think he only has two speeds. Trotting and hauling ass, both of which are too fast for me. 😉 So, I typically leave the running of the dog to the hubs.
I can see where running fast would be insanely fun and I could get down with it …..if I were only a faster runner. haha Enjoy it and Run like the Wind, Rachel!!
Haha thanks! I’m not really very fast. But for me I am and that’s all that matters. 🙂
My dog trots and sprints but somehow her trots are waaaay slow and my arm gets ripped out of the socket but going the other way bc I’m pulling her!
Ha! I don’t touch the vacuum at my house. It’s my husband’s “thing” and I gladly let him have at it. I’ve gotten to where I deliberate a LONG time about a race when deep down I know I’m going to do it. I’m not sure what the hesitation is all about. Fear of being injured and having to DNS perhaps? Grandma’s was so tempting for me but the date wasn’t the best. Maybe one day, I’ll get there. Thanks for the linkup!
I know right?! What’s the hold up with the races??! If we know we’re gonna do them anyway… 😉
I’m hoping to head to Utah in 2018. Maybe that one will work better for your sched and us bloggers can take over the race. ?
There is something about a 5K- you start fast and try to finish even faster, I love them too! Your hubby does sound like a keeper. You say there is a right way to vacuum, my hubby says you have to load the dishwasher in a certain order. It is all good! TGIF!
Oh yes, we have the dishwasher argument too. ?
THANK YOU for agreeing with me about a 5K!! Looks like we’re the only two out there that love running at suicide pace. ?
Supportive husbands are the best! So grateful for mine too!
While I do love a good speedwork session, 5Ks just kill me…which is probably why I haven’t raced one in a while 😉
But they’re so fun!!! ??
I’m very concerned about our planet as well. I am really pissed that the Trump Admin. is slashing EPA regs. Seriously… who the hell is against clean air and clean water besides CEOs of big companies who destroy the planet?? I don’t get it. I decided there is going to be A LOT in the next four years that I can’t control but I CAN control me. I want to make more environmentally sound choices where I can. Less trash. More reusing, etc. I hope to think of some more ideas… We did start donating to the EDF, which I am excited about.
I know, it’s really bothersome and worrisome. All of what you said. But I agree, there are small things I can control and every little bit helps.
I’m so glad you decided to run Grandmas!!! We’re going to have a fun weekend!
Yeah we are!
I know what you mean about the weather- I cant help but enjoy it and wish it would stick around longer!
Same. But global warming… :/ #mixedfeelings
I wish I could still run with my dog but as you know, she’s old and has her problems.
Sounds like you will have fun at Grandma’s as I know many bloggers are going too!
Your pup is adorable though. My older dog is a lab/husky mix and she certainly could have run for hours in her youth. Unfortunately at that time I wasn’t a runner so she wasted her active years. I feel guilty about that but she’s had a great life so far.
I’m really excited for Grandma’s! YOU SHOULD COME! 😉
I’m a tree hugger too, but I have to admit that I sure do love the warmer winter temps for running! I live in Maine, so having less ice to contend with as a runner is nice! Love all your pictures too, thanks for hosting the Friday 5 🙂
I know, right? But it makes me feel a little sad because we’re killing our home! But warm weather… so… lol.
Love the tribute to your hubby. I feel the same way about mine! He’s such a great support for all my endeavors and I love that we share out love of running and travel with each other.
It’s so helpful to have a supportive person in your corner, isn’t it? And even better when you share the same interests!
Is “mensch” (with is the German word for “human being”) an extra nice compliment? If so, I’ll take it 🙂
Our support system is so important, indeed.
In Yiddish (which is a mixture of German and Hebrew) it means a person of integrity, or a good guy.
The weather has been awesome but not so much right now. I did the Mardi Gras 5k in snow flurries yesterday and it was so cold by the lakefront in Chicago. Where do you live?
CLE. It’s cold here again, too. Boo!
Love that your weather is great…..I wish I could run with my dog, but he’s too lazy.
My dog is pretty lazy as well but we have fun together. 🙂
